Confident smiles start here.
Whether your child has crowding, bite issues, or gaps between teeth, braces offer a time-tested solution to help them grow into a healthy, well-aligned smile. At Mitten Kids Dentistry, our in-house orthodontist, Dr. Katie, provides personalized orthodontic care in a kid-friendly environment—so your child can feel confident and comfortable from day one.
The Braces Process
Orthodontic Consultation with Dr. Katie
We’ll take a look at your child’s teeth, jaw, and bite using digital X-rays and photos to determine if braces are the right fit.
Braces Off and Retainer Time!
Once the braces come off, we’ll fit your child for a custom retainer to help maintain their beautiful new smile.
Getting Braces Placed
Once we’ve crafted a custom treatment plan, we’ll carefully place the braces in a single visit and walk your child through what to expect.
Check-ins and Adjustments
Your child will return for quick visits every few weeks so Dr. Katie can make small adjustments, answer questions, and keep everything on track.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my child still be able to play sports or instruments?
Yes! We recommend wearing a mouthguard during contact sports and can provide guidance for keeping up with band or orchestra activities comfortably.
Do braces hurt?
Braces don’t hurt when they’re placed, but your child may feel some pressure or soreness for a few days after adjustments. Most kids adjust quickly—and we’re here with tips to make the transition easier.
How long will my child wear braces?
Treatment time varies, but most children wear braces for 18–24 months. We’ll give you a personalized timeline during your consultation with Dr. Katie.
When is the right age to get braces?
Every child is different, but we typically start monitoring orthodontic development around age 7. Some kids may benefit from early treatment, while others may not need braces until their teen years.
